After more than two years of intensive research and development work, an innovative solution for removing microplastics from wastewater has been realised by an interdisciplinary team in scientific collaboration with the University of Stuttgart. An OKO-aquaclean flotation system adapted to the requirements for the separation of microplastics represents the central process technology. In combination with a sustainable treatment process based on native, renewable raw materials, separation efficiencies of up to >99% in the size classes 0.01 – 3500 µm for microplastic particles have been demonstrated.
