Why Are Certain Types of Sludge So Difficult to Dewater?
Particular challenges can arise with oil separator sludge, for example. Such sludge may contain surfactants, mineral oil hydrocarbons (MHCs) and a high proportion of very fine particles.
With certain types of sludge, up to 95% of the particles may be smaller than 63 µm. Due to this fine structure, microscopic capillary structures are formed in which water becomes retained. Similar to a sponge, this makes the water difficult to remove from the sludge.
Conventional static dewatering can therefore quickly reach its limits when dealing with such sludge.
One option is dewatering under high pressure, for example using a chamber filter press. The OKO-ewcs, however, takes a different approach: vibration instead of high pressure.
Vibration Supports Sludge Dewatering
The OKO-ewcs with optional vibration module specifically targets the structure of the sludge.
The screen basket, which is mounted on vibration supports, is set into motion. This loosens the sludge structure and supports water release. Water previously retained within the sludge structure can escape more easily and is discharged through the filter fabric.
The result is improved dewatering using comparatively simple and robust technology.
The OKO-ewcs can operate using gravity dewatering as standard. It can also be equipped with an optional vibration module to increase dewatering performance.

The OKO-ewcs is based on a standardized skip-loader container system in accordance with DIN 30720 and is designed for robust, mobile operation.
The screen basket walls and dewatering bridge are covered with durable PE filter fabric. The basket frame is made of stainless steel. The container body is galvanized on both the inside and outside.
In addition to providing mechanical protection, the galvanizing also provides electrochemical corrosion protection, thereby supporting a long service life of the steel construction.
The container can be transported, is easy to operate and can be emptied simply by tipping it.
