Heavy Metal Precipitation

Anlagen zur Entfernung von Schwermetallen aus Abwasser

Heavy metal precipitation is used to specifically remove dissolved heavy metals from industrial wastewater. Many heavy metals can pose risks to the environment and human health, making effective treatment essential for meeting applicable discharge requirements for indirect discharge. OKO-tech systems combine precise process control with effective treatment concepts to support compliant and resource-conscious wastewater treatment.

Which Wastewater Requires Heavy Metal Precipitation in Industrial Wastewater Treatment?

Many industrial wastewater streams contain heavy metals that require targeted treatment. These include rinsing and washing water from pickling processes used in metal surface treatment as well as process baths from these applications.

Rinsing and washing water containing metal salts, as well as wastewater from the cleaning or pretreatment of metal surfaces, for example in powder coating processes, can also contain heavy metals that need to be removed.

Further applications include rinsing and washing water from electroplating processes, process baths from electroplating, rinsing and washing water from phosphating and process baths used for phosphating. These wastewater streams may require heavy metal precipitation to reduce dissolved metal concentrations.

Emulsion breaking of metalworking fluid emulsions can also require further removal of heavy metal-containing substances. This reduces the contaminant load and can improve the conditions for subsequent wastewater treatment stages.

Advantages of Heavy Metal Precipitation with OKO-tech

OKO-tech systems perform heavy metal precipitation in physico-chemical treatment systems or integrate it as an individual treatment stage in flotation systems and emulsion breaking systems.

Automated chemical dosing and modern sensor technology enable precise control of the precipitation process. This supports controlled chemical consumption, reduces maintenance requirements and can help lower operating costs.

Depending on the wastewater characteristics and required treatment targets, precipitation can be combined with sedimentation, flotation, filtration or ion exchange to achieve the required residual heavy metal concentrations in treated wastewater.
