Heavy Metal Removal from Wastewater
The OKO-ionex ion exchange system is used where more stringent requirements apply to heavy metal concentrations in treated wastewater. The vessel contains a special resin that acts as a highly effective selective ion exchange medium, removing dissolved heavy metals from the wastewater.
Nozzle plates at the top and bottom of the vessel ensure uniform flow distribution through the resin bed and prevent the resin from being flushed out of the vessel.

Regeneration of the Ion Exchange System
The OKO-ionex has a maximum capacity for removing heavy metals. Once this capacity has been reached, the ion exchange system must be regenerated.
During the regeneration process, the captured heavy metals are removed from the resin using diluted acid and alkaline solutions. The metals are discharged as a concentrated solution, restoring the ion exchange resin so that it can subsequently remove heavy metals again.
Integration of an Ion Exchange System into Wastewater Treatment
Heavy metal precipitation is first carried out in a lamella clarifier. Any remaining fine flocs must be removed before the ion exchange system to prevent clogging. This is achieved using a gravel filter.
The OKO-ionex then removes the remaining dissolved heavy metals from the wastewater, providing an additional treatment stage for achieving low residual heavy metal concentrations.
