Filtration

Mechanical Separation Process for Industrial Applications

Filtration enables the separation of solids from suspensions and the clarification of the liquid phase. It selectively removes particles from liquids or gases, improving product quality and reducing the load on downstream process steps. From a mechanical perspective, the filter medium acts as a barrier to particles in the mixture. A pressure difference, created by pressure or vacuum, drives the fluid through the filter medium while the particles are retained.

Advantages and Applications of Filtration

Filtration is used in numerous industrial sectors, including food processing, chemical production, metalworking and mining. It can remove suspended particles, support stable process operation and help reduce chemical and energy consumption, depending on the treatment concept. By reducing the particle load, filtration can also relieve subsequent treatment and purification stages. This supports more efficient use of water, chemicals and other resources.

OKO-tech Alternatives to Conventional Filtration

With its OKO-aquaclean flotation systems, OKO-tech offers an alternative to conventional filtration for suitable applications. The systems operate without filter media, eliminating the associated material and replacement requirements. During flotation, suitable suspended particles and other contaminants attach to fine air bubbles and rise to the surface, where they can be removed from the wastewater.

The continuous operation of the flotation systems supports uninterrupted treatment and can reduce manual intervention. This makes flotation a suitable treatment stage for applications where continuous separation of suspended solids, oils, fats and other floatable contaminants is required.

For the separation of coarse solids from 3 mm upwards, the OKO-rosi rotary screen is suitable. It continuously retains unwanted solids such as gloves, tools and stones and removes them from the wastewater stream. Combining a rotary screen for coarse solids removal with flotation for finer suspended contaminants can provide effective pre-treatment and reduce the load on downstream wastewater treatment processes.
